This kind of seems to be a common problem, especially with the newer push button start cars. With those, you have to push the brake pedal when you push the button to start the car. Well, if you're pushing on the brake pedal and you happen to have your foot hanging off the edge a little bit, you can push the pedal and catch the gas pedal at the same time. You may not realize it, especially if you’re wearing larger shoes or boots and it really doesn’t take much pressure.
If that happens when you try to start the car, it actually floods the car with gas and it may not start, especially in the colder weather. So, if you come across that situation and the car doesn't start, you can simply push the gas pedal all the way down to the floor and hold it down while you start the car and it should start. That is what they call clear flood mode. When holding the gas pedal down, it'll turn off the injectors and it won't put any fuel into the motor. It essentially clears it out and starts the vehicle on the fuel that's already in there.
This might save you a call to a tow truck or AAA or to us to come rescue you! 🙂 It’s just one of those things that seems like common knowledge to me as a mechanic, but most people don't know about it, so I thought I’d share! Happy Tuesday Tipsday!
